Arrive Early
Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment. This allows you the opportunity to park, check in, and complete any other necessary paperwork. The process time takes 15 - 20 minutes to complete.
NOTE: If you arrive late for your appointment you may be asked to reschedule. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please log into the Order Tracker to reschedule.
Minors
Anyone under the age of 18 MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian to be fingerprinted. If the minor has a school ID or DMV issued ID card, bring it with you. The parent/guardian will need to provide either a birth certificate or documentation of proof of guardianship. We will accept either source of proof in a physical or digital format.
Photo ID Required
At the time of the appointment, you will need to provide a physical valid driver's license or DMV issued ID card. If you don't have either, we will accept a valid passport.
NOTE: If you are using a passport as identification, you will either need to pay in cash or bring an alternate identification type.
Electronic Fingerprints
If you need an electronic fingerprint submission (reasons include employment purposes, foster care, medical licensing, or day care workers), you must bring the correct paperwork to the appointment, obtained from the person or agency requiring the fingerprints. We DO NOT have any of these forms. YOU must provide your own paperwork. We WILL NOT print any forms for you.
Thumbprint Only
If you are obtaining thumbprint only, no appointment is necessary. Please visit our office on the first floor of the Durham County Courthouse located at 510 South Dillard Street in Durham to be processed. When applying in person we can usually accommodate most walk-ins during fingerprint service hours.
No Fingerprint Fee
No appointment is necessary for fingerprints with an official sealed letter from Durham County Social Services, Durham County Youth Home, or The Brian Center. When applying in person we can usually accommodate most walk-ins during fingerprint service hours.
