Starting June 9 2026, the Durham County Detention Center will process personal mail (letters, cards, pictures, drawings, etc) through the vendor Smart Communications. All mail will be processed offsite using a "mailscan" system. There, it will be scanned and sent digitally to the recipient. All personal mail received at the previous address will be returned to the sender beginning on this date.
Anyone wishing to send personal mail to a resident of the Durham County Detention Center will now need to address their correspondence to:

This address is for personal correspondence only. As a reminder, never send cash, checks, or money orders as they will not be accepted.
Legal mail, books, and packages must still be sent to the current address and MUST include the inmate’s first, middle and last name.
