Man Shot While Trespassing on Private Property

DURHAM, NC - (Friday, February 2, 2024) On the evening of Thursday, February 1, 2024, just after 5:30 p.m., deputies from the Durham County Sheriff’s Office patrol division responded to an address on the 8200 block of NC 751 for the report of an individual trespassing at a private residence. When they arrived, the man was identified by a resident of the home as Brandon Collins. Collins had left the property however it was communicated by the resident that this was the second time Collins trespassed on the property on the same day.

Just after 7:00 p.m., Collins returned to the residence a third time, jumping a fence to gain access. DCSO was again called for assistance. Upon arriving, the responding deputy observed Collins and a resident of the home involved in a physical altercation outside of the residence.  After separating the two men, it was discovered that Collins had been shot. 

Collins was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.  An arrest warrant was granted for Brandon Lavell Collins, 35 years of age of Durham on charges of First Degree Trespassing. Upon his release, he was taken to the Durham County Detention Center and given a $5,000 secured bond.  He remains in custody this morning.
