CALEA Site Based Assessment

As the Durham County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) prepares for its review from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®), Sheriff Clarence F. Birkhead encourages members of the community to offer comments and feedback regarding DCSO operations. 
Below are the ways to participate:


Assessors will be available to listen to the community and agency members on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, starting at 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time (EST). The session will be hosted by GoToMeeting. To join the meeting from a computer, tablet or smartphone; use the following link:

The session will conclude when there are no more speakers. Comments are limited to ten (10) minutes and must address DCSO’s compliance with CALEA’s standards. If the public has questions regarding the specific standards or standard topics, they may contact Lieutenant Brendan Hartigan, DCSO Accreditation Manager, at (919) 560-7496.


CALEA assessors will be available to receive unscreened and unrecorded telephone calls from the public on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM EST. Assessors can be contacted at (919) 560-0617 during that time frame.  If the line is busy please hang up and try again.
