16 Pounds of Marijuana Discovered in Durham County Residence During Service of Child Custody Order

Durham, NC (Friday, July 24, 2026) – Durham County Sheriff’s Office deputies executing a child custody order on a local male subject discovered a large amount of marijuana and other drugs, resulting in his arrest on multiple charges.    
 
Last night (Thursday 7/23/2026), deputies from the DCSO patrol division went to a home on the 500 block of Maple Street in Durham to serve civil papers regarding the transfer of custody of a child.  While in the process, they detected a strong odor of marijuana present in the home and observed the same in plain sight. Deputies then notified the Sheriff's Anti-Crime and Narcotics Unit (SAC/Narc), who responded to the scene with a search warrant to conduct a more thorough investigation. As a direct result, they discovered approximately 16 lbs. of marijuana, THC Vapes, Gummies and Chocolate, Mushrooms, and a large sum of cash.  
 
Investigators arrested 29-year-old Neil Driver of Durham and charged him early this morning. He is being held in the Durham County Detention Center on a $75,000 secured bond facing the following: 
 
• Felony Possession of Marijuana
• MSDP Controlled Substance w/in 1000 ft of a park
• MSDP Controlled Substance w/in 1000 ft of a school 
• Maintain VDP for Controlled Substance
• PWIMSD Marijuana 
• PWIMSD Sch I Controlled Substance
• Trafficking in Marijuana
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
