Next of Kin Notified
The detainee has been identified as 37-year-old Robert Harris, Jr., of Durham. His death remains under investigation by the SBI and the Durham County Sheriff’s Office.

Detention Center Death 

 Earlier this evening, Durham County Sheriff Clarence F. Birkhead reports that a resident at the Durham County Detention Center died after being transported to a local hospital after being found unresponsive in his cell.

The identity of the detainee is not being released pending notification of next of kin. This is an ongoing investigation, and more information will be released at a later date.
 
The NC State Bureau of Investigation has been notified of the incident.
