FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DURHAM, NC (March 5, 2026) –Juvenile petitions are being sought for a Hillside High School student following a disturbance during lunch today.

During the incident, a female student reportedly discharged pepper spray and set a trash can on fire. Five individuals in the immediate vicinity were affected by the spray; one person, a teacher at the school,  was transported to a local hospital for treatment of exposure.

The student faces pending charges of assault, assault on a government official, and arson. Due to the suspect's age, no further identifying information will be released at this time.
