FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DURHAM, NC (Tuesday, March 31, 2026) - An arrest has been made in a shooting that occurred in February of this year. Shortly after the incident, arrest warrants were obtained for 34-year-old Deonte Jemel Alston of Durham, who was hospitalized due to injuries obtained during the shooting. He has since been released and is now being held in the Durham County Detention Facility on charges of:
- Attempted First Degree Murder
- Possession of Firearm by Felon
- AWDW Minor Present
- FTA - Probation Violation
Alston, who is being held without bond, will make a first appearance today.

Investigators from the Durham County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to look into the incident that occurred on February 24, which led two people with gunshot wounds to the parking lot of the DCSO East substation.
At this time, it appears the injuries to the male and female located in the car were the result of a domestic dispute between the individuals. Both remain in a local hospital for treatment of severe but non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the incident. During the investigation, a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered from the vehicle. Additionally, a minor child who was present in the vehicle was placed in DSS custody yesterday afternoon; the child was not injured.

The Durham County Sheriff's Office is investigating an incident at this hour in the 5300 block of NC98/Wake Forest Hwy. Just after 1:00 p.m., a vehicle entered the parking area of the Durham County Sheriff's Office East Station. A passenger requested help for the driver and themself due to injuries from apparent gunshot wounds. EMS responded and transported two people to a local hospital for treatment.
Neal Middle School, which is adjacent to the property, went on a short lockdown until it was determined that there was no threat in the area.
Wake Forest Highway is currently shut down between Baptist Rd and Olvie Branch Rd as part of the investigation.
