DURHAM, NC (Friday, January 23, 2026) – Deputies from the Durham County Sheriff’s Office Anti-Crime and Narcotics Unit (SAC/Narc), along with the assistance of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) have arrested a Durham man with an extensive criminal record for trafficking in narcotics. On the night of January 22, investigators executed a search warrant on Truman Street in the McDougald Terrace neighborhood. As a result of the warrant, 37-year-old Leland Lamont Shaw was found to be in possession of fentanyl, cocaine, marijuana, and assorted prescription medications. Additionally, he possessed multiple firearms, including one listed as stolen and a conversion device, commonly known as a 'switch,' designed to modify a semiautomatic pistol into a fully automatic weapon.
Shaw was booked into the Durham County Detention Facility without the benefit of bond on charges of:

- Maintn veh/dwell/place CS (f)
- Possess drug paraphernalia
- Possess Stolen Firearm
- Possess weapon mass destruct
- Possession of Firearm by Felon

- Resisting Public Officer
- Trafficking in Cocaine
- Trafficking in Fentanyl
"This arrest removes a significant amount of dangerous narcotics and an illegally modified weapon from our streets," said Durham County Sheriff Clarence Birkhead. "Our deputies remain committed to disrupting the flow of fentanyl and illegal firearms to keep the residents of Durham County safe."
