Durham, NC (Monday, January 5, 2026) --- The Durham County Sheriff’s Office announces the arrest of a local man following a report of a stolen vehicle last week. The incident occurred on January 3, 2026.
According to investigators, a DCSO Patrol Unit was notified about a vehicle that had been reported stolen in Chapel Hill entering the parking lot of Southpoint Mall. After a brief search of the parking lot, the car (Acura TSX) was located parked and unoccupied. Inside the car in plain view, deputies observed narcotics and paraphernalia. Utilizing surveillance video, DCSO deputies were then able to identify the driver and sole occupant exiting the vehicle in the parking lot. The male subject was located shortly after in a store inside the mall, was detained and arrested without further incident.
A search of the stolen vehicle resulted in the seizure of 100 grams of cocaine, fentanyl, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a large sum of cash. 25-year-old Jacquarius Isaiah King of Durham was transported to the Durham County Detention Center, where he remains without the benefit of bond.
King is charged with:
Trafficking in Cocaine (felony)
PWIMSD Cocaine (felony)
Maintain Place Controlled Substance
Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle
Possession Schedule VI Controlled Substance (misdemeanor)
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
