DURHAM, NC (Monday, December 22, 2025) –  The Durham County Sheriff's Office can now release the name of the victim in this morning's homicide on Arddley Rd.  The deceased has been identified as John Edward Tyler, age 54 of Durham. Charged with his death is 50-year-old Joseph Stevens.  Stevens is being held in the Durham County Detention Facility without bond on a charge of First Degree Murder.

The Durham County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Monday morning at a residence on Ardsley Drive.

Just after 5:00 a.m., deputies responded to a report of a shooting at a home in the 2500 block of Ardsley Drive. Upon arrival, deputies took a resident of the home into custody without incident after they reported shooting another resident. The victim’s body was located inside the residence.

DCSO investigators and forensics personnel are currently on the scene conducting a homicide investigation.

This investigation is in its preliminary stages. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
