DURHAM, NC – (Wednesday, November 19, 2025) The Durham County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit has charged a school bus driver after he is alleged to have had multiple sexual encounters with a middle school student. 
 
In August of this year, the mother of the female student contacted the Durham County Sheriff’s Office, alleging that the suspect had engaged in sexual activities with her daughter beginning in November of 2024.  The resulting investigation determined that the allegations were justified, and today Kenneth Arnold Thompson Jr. was arrested at his home in Burlington, NC.   
Thompson, who is currently being held in the Durham County Detention Facility without bond, is charged with:

• 3 counts Statutory Rape of a Child under 15
• 1 count of First Degree Statutory Sex Offense
• 1 count Sexual Activity with a student.

 
Due to the nature of the crime and the age of the victim, no further information will be released.   This investigation remains active, and additional charges are pending.
