Mid-Point Year 2025 Crime Data Released by DCSO

Durham, NC (Monday, July 28, 2025) – Durham County Sheriff Clarence F. Birkhead released crime statistics covering the first six (6) months of the current calendar year 2025.

Overall, DCSO registered a crime decrease of 26% regarding the “Top 8 Crimes” when comparing January through June 2025 (31 total) versus the same period in 2024 (42).

This specific category includes:

  • Murder
  • Sex Offenses
  • Robbery
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Burglary/Breaking & Entering
  • Larceny (includes break-ins to motor vehicles)
  • Motor Vehicle Theft
  • Arson

Sheriff Birkhead said: “We applaud the hard work of DCSO deputies patrolling 24/7 and specialized crime units who are working together with our community to reduce crime. We remind the public to report any suspicious activity - if you ‘see something, say something’ - by calling 911 immediately or 919-560-0900”

Recovered Stolen Vehicles
In June 2025 alone, DCSO recovered a total of 17 stolen vehicles across the County reportedly taken from Durham and surrounding areas.  

Firearm Data (111 incidents - first six months of 2025):

  • 69 seized
  • 25 reported stolen
  • 17 recovered/found
