Second felony arrest in a month for Durham man

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Durham, NC- (January 10, 2020) - Investigators from the Durham County Sheriff's Office Anti-crime and Narcotics unit (SAC/Narc) developed information that Stephen Lamont Steele Jr was conducting a drug operation in the area of his residence located at 626 Reservoir St. Apt B. Steele, who is on pretrial release pending indictment, had been arrested on 12/16/19 on charges of felony eluding, possession of firearm by felon and possession of stolen firearm.

On the evening of Thursday, January 10, 2020, SAC/Narc investigators served a narcotics search warrant at 626 B Reservoir St. Upon entry to the residence, they found 6 individuals and a large amount of currency, drugs, and weapons. During the search of apartment B, information was obtained that Mr. Steele was also connected to apartment A. A second warrant was obtained and a search was conducted of that residence. Additional items pertaining to the case were found there.

From both apartments Sheriff's Office investigators seized:
Approximately $1,700
3.5 grams crack cocaine
60 grams Heroin
35 grams Marijuana
61 Suboxone strips
3 Percocet
2 handguns
1 rifle

Stephen Lamont Steele Jr., 32, of the home is charged with

Trafficking in Heroin 2 counts
Maintaining a dwelling 2 counts
PWISD Heroin 2 Counts
PWISD Cocaine 2 counts
Maintaining a dwelling
Possession Stolen Firearm
Possession Firearm by Felon
Possession drug paraphernalia
He is being held at the Durham County Detention Center on a $250,000 Bond
