Vehicle Pursuit Results in Juvenile Petition

Durham, NC - Thursday morning April 18, at approximately 3:50 a.m., a deputy leaving the Sheriff’s Office in downtown Durham spotted a white SUV matching the description of a stolen vehicle that fled from the Durham Police Dept. earlier in the night. It was occupied by the driver and 2 passengers. The deputy followed and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on S. Alston Ave. The driver of the stolen SUV fled from the deputy at a high rate of speed southbound on NC 55. They continued on NC 55, turning on Odyssey Dr where the SUV stopped and all three people jumped and ran. The vehicle was left running and in drive and rolled a short distance down an embankment, receiving minor damage. One male juvenile was detained on scene, a juvenile petition will be served for charges related to the pursuit. Two additional male juveniles were able to flee. Durham Police K9 responded to the scene and began a track for the two suspects. After a thorough search, it was determined they were no longer in the area.
