What: Graduation Ceremony for the 62nd Basic Detention Officer Training Academy
When: TODAY! March 8, 2019, 7:00 P.M.
Where: Ridgecrest Baptist Church - 1104 Milton Rd, Durham

Durham, NC -  The Durham County Sheriff’s Office would like to invite you to the graduation ceremony for the 62nd Basic Detention Officer Training Academy.

Durham County is one of only a handful of sheriff offices in NC that is certified to run its own academy to train individuals to become detention officers. In February, our training facility was re-certified to offer BDOT for another five additional years. Managing our own program allows us the opportunity to train cadets to meet the specific needs of the Durham County Detention Facility and the citizens of our County.

During the program, cadets are given instruction on skills like patrol and security, transportation of inmates, legal responsibilities and subject control techniques as well as topics like first aid, ethics and crisis intervention.
As the Sheriff’s Office begins to expand in all areas it is important to retain our current personnel while we recruit new detention officers and deputies. We accomplish this in part by offering quality training that maintains a high-level of professionalism and service to the citizens of Durham County.

Please join the Sheriff and staff of the Durham County Sheriff’s Office in welcoming our newly certified detention officers.  The Sheriff will be available for interview to discuss training and recruitment as well as the upcoming budget.
