Saturday evening after his release from the hospital, the Durham County Sheriff’s Office charged Chivalery Alexa Moore, 33 of 504 Nelson St Kinston, NC with murder. The charge stems from the death of his father Willie Moore. Willie Moore’s body was found in his home on Tomahawk Trail Tuesday evening following a 5-hour standoff involving Chivalery. During the standoff, Chivalery Moore was shot by a member of the Sheriff’s Office. As a result, Deputy David Bermel, was placed on paid leave pending the outcome of an SBI and internal investigation. Deputy Bermel has been a member of the Durham County Sheriff’s Office since 2013.
Chivalery Moore was processed into Durham County Detention Center and will make his first appearance Monday morning.
The Durham County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the residents of the Sandlewood neighborhood for their patience and cooperation during the incident and the subsequent investigation.
The Sheriff's Office was able to make contact with next of kin and can now identify the deceased person as 60-year-old Willie Moore. Mr. Moore resided in the home on 5706 Tomahawk Trail.

The Durham County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the suspicious death of a person discovered at a home on Tomahawk Trail in Durham County Tuesday evening. Entry into the residence was made following an approximately 5 hour standoff while making multiple attempts to establish communication, to no avail. Identification and notification of any next of kin of the deceased is pending. Therefore, we are not releasing the name of the deceased at this time. The Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the name of the barricaded individual at this time, pending the outcome of our initial investigation into this matter. He remains at the hospital for treatment of his injuries. One deputy involved in the apprehension of that person received minor injuries and was treated at the scene by EMS. We are not releasing his identity nor the identity of the deputy involved in the shooting pending the outcome of the SBI investigation. When any further information is available it will be released in a timely manner.

Durham County, NC - Just before 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8th, deputies from the Durham County Sheriff's Office responded to 5706 Tomahawk Trail for a welfare check after a call from a concerned citizen.
Upon arrival at the residence, deputies encountered a barricaded person in the home. The Sheriff's Office Emergency Response Team was called to the scene, and after repeated attempts to make contact with the person inside, they made entry into the home, taking one person into custody. The body of a deceased person was also found in the home.
The barricaded subject sustained non-life threatening injuries as the result of a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The State Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene as is standard in an officer involved shooting. The deputy involved has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation. The SBI will be the point of contact for any further information about this investigation.
