PURSUIT AFTER DRUG INVESTIGATION LEADS TO ARREST

Durham, N.C. – At approximately 7:40 p.m. Thursday evening, deputies from the Durham County Sheriff's Office narcotics unit were conducting an investigation near Freeman Rd and Clayton Rd. As a result of the investigation, they attempted to stop a Silver Dodge Charger occupied by 3 males. The driver led deputies on a short pursuit that ended when the suspect vehicle ran a stop sign on Adams St entering onto Holloway St. A marked Durham County Sheriff’s car that was responding to the area to assist collided with the fleeing vehicle on Holloway St. The deputy's vehicle then struck a van. 

One of the passengers in the suspect vehicle was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non life threatening injures. A second man was taken to the Durham County Detention Center and the third was released.  The man in custody is identified as Montes Miller, 19 of Durham.  Miller is charged with fleeing to elude arrest, reckless driving to endanger, and speeding.  He is being held on a $20,000 secured bond. 

Recovered from the Dodge Charger was an undisclosed amount of cash and drugs.  

The deputy was transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries and was released. 

The driver of the van was not injured. 

The investigation into this incident is continuing.
