Deputies Make Arrest After Jump and Run

Durham, N.C. – Shortly before 4 pm on Thursday, June 7, 2018, detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division observed a suspicious vehicle with 2 men inside in the area of Lakewood Ave and Duke St. After determining the vehicle had a fictitious tag they attempted to make a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop and fled from the area.  The detectives followed and came upon the vehicle again as it ran a traffic light on Morehead Ave and Vickers Ave, where it was struck by another vehicle.  After the crash, both men inside the car jumped and ran from the vehicle. A short foot pursuit occurred, the driver was caught and taken into custody. This morning the driver of the car is being identified as Antonio Bernard Johnson, 20 years old, of Durham.  Johnson is charged with felony hit and run, felony fleeing to elude arrest, and resisting a public officer in addition to multiple traffic violations.  He was released from the  Durham County Detention Center after posting a $7500 secured bond. 
The passenger in the vehicle is still at large and the investigation into this incident is continuing.  If you have information regarding please call the Durham County Sheriff's Office at (919) 560 – 0897.
