Durham, N.C. – This morning, Durham County Deputies responded to Hillside High School after receiving a tip about a student in possession of a gun on campus. It was discovered that in his vehicle, Dreldon Charle Majette, 19 was in possession of a Kel-tec 9mm long rifle with a high capacity magazine. As a result, Majette was charged with misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon and having a gun on school property, which is a felony. He was booked into the Durham County Detention Center and released on a $15,000 unsecured bond.
Majette did not make any direct threats against the school, students or staff and did not present the weapon in a threatening manner while at the school. However, bringing any weapon onto a school’s campus is a serious matter and was investigated as such. We are grateful that this was brought to our attention, and the investigation was concluded without incident.
